By: Pedro M. Antunes and Katie J. Field
This month in What we are reading, Professor Pedro M. Antunes (Algoma University, Canada) interviews Professor Katie Field (University of Sheffield, UK) about the first evidence that fine root endophytes (phylum Mucoromycotina) are nutritional mutualists with a flowering plant. In other words, these fungi are mycorrhizal.
Their article entitled “Direct nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon exchanges between Mucoromycotina ‘fine root endophyte’ fungi and a flowering plant in novel monoxenic cultures” can be found here: https://nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/nph.18630
